Chemo Update and My Soririty Sisters

After my last post I'm sure you are all wondering if I'm back to normal.  The answer is YES!  Thankfully I started feeling much better on Wednesday.  It's a good thing, because I wanted to have fun with my nieces and nephews and I sure did.
Friday I went for my visit to Dr. Dan and to have Chemo.  My friend Kaycee met Tenielle and me there.  My port was accessed and my blood was drawn.  I made Tenielle come watch, she wasn't really interested, but was good sport anyways.  Dr. Dan was running a bit behind, but he spent a good amount of time with me.  Of course my first complaint was how sick I was from my first chemo treatment.  He quickly let me know that I wasn't going to have chemo that day because my White Blood Count was 2, which is too low for chemo.  And because of my count going so low with just one treatment and being so sick, we are going to change things up.

The conclusion Dr. Dan came to was that my body probably just didn't respond well to having the full dose of Carboplatin.  He also thinks me being so ill could have been because the tumors are responding to the chemo.  However I did talk with my cousins wife who works at MSTI and she said sometimes people get sick with the Carbo/Gemzar combination, even though the side effects are suppose to be minimal.  Dr. Dan was surprised I was so sick, because I had the worst chemo regiman last time.  Last time the side effects were bad, but not as long and different than this past treatment.

I suggested that I skip the next cycle until I'm finished with my time in MVY.  Dr. Dan wasn't hip on that idea.

The plan will be to have chemo on July 31 and August 7 in MVY with just half of the Carbo dose each time.  We are going to not do Gemzar this time around and see if I feel better splitting the Carbo dose.  If I do okay, we will put the Gemzar back in with the split Carbo doses when I return to Boise on August 20 and then will also have chemo the following week.  I'm hoping when we do the combo again, I feel much better than I did earlier this week.  I don't think I could handle it again, well I probably could, but I don't want to.

So instead of chatting over chemo, Kaycee and I sat out on the grounds of St. Lukes and caught up.  I love that girl.

In college I belonged to a Sorority and met some of the most amazing girls who have become lasting friends.  Kaycee, Kathy,  Nicole, Julie, Angela and I made some of the best memories ever.  This week I was able to see 3 of these sorority sisters.  I ran into Kathy at Tami's Tea Cottage and I saw Nicole at my class reunion, because she married someone in my class.
*Notice to Kaycee and Kathy...Nicole is moving to Oregon in 2 weeks.  We've already decided we will have a Sorority Sisters Luncheon when we are all home for Christmas!
